Disaster and Emergency Management Centre

Gold Coast residents will be better prepared to handle emergencies with the establishment of the new Disaster and Emergency Management Centre (DEMC). The Centre will ensure efficient coordination of response and recovery activities among various organizations involved in managing emergencies.

The DEMC has been created with a focus on providing adequate support for the functioning of AIIMS arrangements in an efficient manner. Its design has been tailored to cater to this need, ensuring seamless operation.

AIIMS plays a crucial role in assisting Police and Emergency Services agencies, alongside other Local Government Agencies and the Australian Defence Force. The design of the DEMC is a crucial element in ensuring that all staff and agencies working in the center can maintain situational awareness effectively.

IntraSpace utilised internal magnetic locks for the lockers to complement their electronic locking system. These are known for being compact and energy-efficient. This specific model features a stainless steel casing that provides 80 lbs. of holding force, making it suitable for small access control applications. This installation ensures secure access to the designated areas.

The installation of the IntraSpace storage system in our redeveloped Emergency Department has been a very positive process. The modular system has improved workflow and we are now reviewing our work practices to capture the efficiencies with improved outcomes. Compliance to Infection Control for both Storage and Handling of Sterile stock and the Victorian Cleaning Standards is being met with decreased resources and man hours due to the efficiencies the system provides.
